2010 Winner of the Resolve Group Scholarship

We are pleased to announce Chantelle Bailey as the winner of this years’ Resolve Group Engineering Scholarship.

Chantelle began her career in the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF), gaining aeronautical qualifications and experience working as a professional aircraft technician. She has worked on a variety of aircraft ranging from the C130 Hercules and Boeing 727, through to the Aermacchi and A-4 SkyHawks, as well as representing the RNZAF and NZ Defence Force in basketball and netball.

Since enrolling in a Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Auckland, Chantelle has won the faculty of engineering’s Zome competition and is currently a Year 3 representative. She was also a member of the winning team at the IPENZ quiz night held earlier this year.

Chantelle will be working for Resolve during her summer break before returning to university to complete the final year of her civil engineering degree.

“I’m thrilled to win the scholarship,” says Chantelle. “I know that working for such a reputable firm as Resolve Group is an immeasurable and invaluable opportunity, which I am thoroughly looking forward too!”

As the mother of two young girls, Chantelle also balances her studies with her family obligations.

The Value of Extra Education

Last week Philippa Walker participated in the Principal for a Day programme, an initiative connecting businesses with schools. Shadowing Janice Vermeulen, Principal of Weymouth Primary School in Manukau for the day gave Philippa a unique insight into the challenges of low decile schools in Auckland.

"The big challenge for Weymouth kids is to be able to stay in education beyond the minimum school leaver age," says Philippa. "Our engineers know the value of extra education and can share this with the children."

Philippa can see a number of ways for Resolve Group to continue its relationship with Weymouth Primary including sponsoring the school's 'Duffy Books in Homes' programme, having some young engineers attend the school's Bright Sparks Expo to talk about engineering as a career as well as asking staff to donate goods for the school gala next month.

Academic and Sporting Success for Resolve Group Scholar

We are thrilled to announce the winner of the Resolve Group Engineering Scholarship in conjunction with the University of Auckland. This is awarded to an outstanding engineering student each year. Samantha Schubert, who was also placed on the Faculty of Engineering Dean’s Honours List for 2009, is in the third year of her conjoint civil engineering and commerce degree and is gaining valuable work experience at Resolve Group working on service agreements and assisting network engineers at the Auckland Motorway Alliance. “It’s definitely put me in a good position for the future,” says Sam. “I’m being exposed to real working life and what’s expected of a graduate engineer.” As well as outstanding academic success, Sam is also well regarded in sport. She recently won the Hinemoa 2km swim at the Blue Lake in Rotorua for the second time, plays netball for Carlton and has represented New Zealand in both the Junior and Senior Women’s water polo teams since 2005. She currently plays water polo for Marist Auckland Club.
