The Challenge:

Auckland Transport is developing an integrated transport network to keep Tāmaki Makaurau moving as growth is expected to see 700,000 more people in the city over the next 30 years.  There is a ‘missing link’ in Auckland’s rail network between Britomart and Eden Terrance.

The Outcome:

The City Rail Link (CRL) is New Zealand’s largest ever transport infrastructure project, designed to further enhance Auckland’s public transport network, transforming travel around the city and doubling the capacity of the rail network. The project will result in greater and easier access to more of the city centre and major employment areas, and will double the number of people living within a 30-minute train trip of a city centre station. It includes:

  • Twin 3.45k rail tunnels up to 42m underground between Waitematā Station (Britomart) and Maungawhau Stations,

  • Two new underground stations – midtown Te Waihorotiu and Karanga-a-Hape, with entrances at Mercury Lane and Beresford Square,

  • Waitematā Station (Britomart) redeveloped into a two-way through station,

  • Maungawhau Station redeveloped to include the new CRL line and a modern station building,

  • Wider rail network improvements including The Strand, Ōtāhuhu and Newmarket,

  • Provision for longer nine-car electric trains,

  • More people friendly spaces around the city.

Our Involvement:

Resolve Group provided the procurement of Professional Services to support lodgement of Notices of Requirement and the CBD Rail Link Study (including all technical assessments) that determined the project’s preferred location, were involved in the procurement of the Principal’s Technical Advisor commission, and procured the Enabling Works package. We also completed the market sounding and procurement strategy for remaining works.
