Cape Reinga

Sealing the final 19kms of the northernmost section of State Highway 1 from Waitiki Landing to Cape Reinga is a milestone project.

Martin Leak was Project Manager of the $14.5 million works which has involved negotiations with the Department of Conservation and local iwi since 2004.

A highly ecologically sensitive area

This road is popular with tourists and the objectives include improved safety and a reduced crash rate; improved travel times and lower vehicle operating costs.

There are significant restraints on road alignment which has necessitated working with the designers and the safety engineers to optimise a practical, cost effective solution.

Resolve Group was involved in the procurement of both the Professional Services and Physical Works contractors before handing the project over in late 2007 for the construction phase, which is expected to take three years.
